Rabat Ajax obtained their second victory of the season beating St Patrick with a Ryan Micallef goal halfway through the second half.
It was a fully deserved victory for Rabat who dominated the match, missing some incredible scoring chances, apart from hitting the upright twice.
St Patrick did the early running with Gockaj distinguishing himself with some neat moves. On 11 minutes Ilyad Scicluna’s shot was saved by Mintoff, with the same Mintoff blocking a Gockaj effort from the edge of the area.
Rabat’s first attempt at goal came on 25 minutes came from David Azzopardi, with his shot saved by Galea. On the half hour the Saints went close with a good drive by Blendi Gockaj that missed the target by a whisker.
Rabat dominated the last minutes of the first half with Smeir going near with a well taken freekick. Rabat’s best chances came Ryan Micallef’s way but in both instances goalkeeper Joshua Galea effected brilliant saves.
On the resumption Rabat continued to press forward and were unlucky on 48 minutes when Ryan Micallef’s shot slammed against the upright. Ten minutes later luck again denied the Magpies when off a David Azzopardi cross from the left, Wayne Borg’s header beat Joshua Galea but the ball was again stopped by the upright.
Midway through the second half Adam Smeir rounded a defender but his shot went inches wide. Joshua Galea again came to the Saints’ rescue with another fine save off a Smeir shot.
