A team of 12 junior waterpolo players, together with a group of 17 swimmers from the Sirens A squad, have recently attended a five-day training camp in Recco, in northern Italy.
Recco although having a population of just around 10,000, this year won the Italian waterpolo championship for the first time. The Sirens junior waterpolo team played friendly games against Bogliasco and twice against Camogli.
The waterpolo squad consisted of Gianluca Busuttil, Andrew Sammut, Sven Goran Xerri, Luke Caruana, John Napier, Julian Sant, Dino Zammit, Marc Grech, Vincent Bartolo, Nicholas Kane Grixti, Kurt Gatt, Paul Micallef, Isaac Spiteri, Daniel Cefai together with coach Dorian Pisani who was assisted by Richard Micallef, Christopher Montfort and Robert Joseph Cassar.
The swimming team trained at Rapallo Piscina Comunale which hosts a new indoor 50 metre pool, an outdoor 50 metre pool and a 25 metre paddling pool. While there, swimmers trained on a twice a day schedule and also took part in a time trial event together with the Rapallo Swimming team.
Swimmers representing Sirens were Karl Borg, Nicholas Sammut, Mathew Farrugia, Isaiah Riolo, Jeremy Bugeja, Bernard Sant, Antonio Scardino, Jasmine Borg, Rebecca Agius, Lara Marie Deguara, Martina Busuttil, Maya Borg, Mikela Riolo, Rebecca Agius, Emma Caruana, Emma and Leah Tanti.
The swimming squad was under the guidance and tuition of head coach Davina Mangion, assisted by Daniela Deguara and Mary Ann Bugeja.
