Air Pistol, Prone Rifle Shooting: MARPSC shooters at The European Commonwealth Championships 2011

Three Maltese shooters, Eleanor Bezzina - Air-Pistol (Ladies), Stephen Vassallo - Air-Pistol (Men), and Lawrence Darmanin - Prone Rifle (Men), took part in this year’s edition of the CSF(ED) which took place at Bisley Shooting Ranges in England last month.

The highlight of this participation was Eleanor Bezzina who achieved an excellent score of 370/400 in the qualification round to enter the final in seventh place. After a tense final 10 shots, Eleanor managed to improve her final standing position to sixth place with a final score of 92.8 points.

It is important to note that several of the shooters taking part in this competition have already qualified to represent England in next summer’s Olympic Games.

Stephen Vassallo also did very well considering that this was his first participation in a foreign competition abroad. In the qualification round he scored a good 524/600 but unfortunately this was not high enough to enable him to qualify for the final.

Lawrence Darmanin took part in the 50m Prone Rifle event and again this was studded with some great shooters some of whom have also qualified for the 2012 London Olympic Games. Lawrence obtained a score of 562/600.

Next year the CSF(ED) will be taking place on the British Island of Jersey where all the shooting disciplines including the pistol events (which were missing in Bisley) will be organised.
