Two members of West Germany’s 1966 World Cup football squad are dismissing suggestions players may have broken doping rules with cold treatment medicine.

Former defender Willi Schulz calls the claims “complete and utter rubbish,” adding he has “rarely laughed so much.”

Former striker Juergen Grabowski says “it’s the first I’ve heard of it. I was never aware of any doping with the national team, nor was it ever an issue.”

Historians recently uncovered a letter from 1966 in which the FIFA medical committee chairman Mihailo Andrejevic wrote of slight traces of an ephedrine-based medicine found in three unnamed German players at the World Cup.
