Scrabble is a sport for all seasons, as the Malta Scrabble Club now shifts its focus from the summer league to the autumn league.
In the summer competition, Theresa Brousson had the better of a surprising Charles Micallef and a somewhat disappointing David Delicata who finished second and third respectively.
Frans Farrugia topped the Section B group while Mario Camilleri made up for his poor showing in the initial phase by winning Section C.
The local scrabblers are now shedding their summer torpor in the longer and tougher Autumn League, which is being contested by a healthy field of 35 players.
On the international front, the Maltese flag will be flying together with those of 43 other countries at the 11th World Scrabble Championship in Warsaw, Poland.
Six-times national champion Theresa Brousson and five-times champion David Delicata will be pitting themselves against the best Scrabble minds in the world in a highly taxing four-day competition between 12 and 16 October, hoping to make their country’s flag fly as high as possible.
