The first national shooting competition for the season 2011-2012 was organised by the Malta Air-Rifle and Pistol Shooting Club at the MSSF indoor Airgun Shooting Range in Bidnija last Saturday.
After a short summer break several shooters took part in this first competition.
In the Men’s Air-pistol event, Ray Cacciattolo took this shoot by storm when he registered a good win with a score of 543/600 points for first place. He was followed in second place by the ever-improving Stephen Vassallo with a personal best score of 537/600 points. In third place, Martin Grech obtained a score of 480/600 points.
In the Ladies Air-Pistol event, Eleanor Bezzina continued in her unbeatable streak by registering a top score of 373/400 to win the event ahead of Josette Calleja who also achieved a personal best score of 331/400 points.
In the Air-Rifle event there was the return of veteran Lawrence Darmanin who won this shoot with a score of 536/600 points ahead of youngster Charlo Chircop who obtained a score of 515/600 points. Gozitan shooter Romeo Zuber scored 497 points for a merited third placing. Austin Vella ended in fourth place with a score of 445 points.
Gino Galea refereed these competitions and was assisted by John Galea and Bernardette Chircop.
