ASM Motocross Riders training in Agrigento

Malta Independent Thursday, 13 October 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Four ASM Motocross riders have just returned home from Favara in Agrigento.

The riders were accompanied by ASM President Frans Deguara and a small support team during their training visit at the Giarrizzo MX Corse.

The aim of this visit was to familiarise themselves on Sicilian national championship soil where the racetracks are of larger dimensions than those found in Malta. Thus, our Maltese riders can exhibit their talent shoulder to shoulder with the best Sicilian championship riders on 23 October.

The Giarrizzo Motocross track in Agrigento is the longest track in Sicily at 1.62Km. It is built on a hillside of high altitudes thus it offers greater challenge to the rider and his motorcycle too. Stamina of man and machine play an important role on this track. Giarrizzo Corse is homologated by both the Italian Federation FMI and UISP too because of the high standards regards safety and endurance.

Last Friday, the Maltese team were very much welcomed by the track owners Flli. Cavaleri and the track architect and Motocross instructor Luigi. Luigi, though 43 years old is still riding his Honda 250cc in the veteran class.

Stefan Dimech and Josef Attard from Gozo will be riding on Honda 250cc while Clayton Camilleri will be riding his KTM 250cc. Chris Muscat accompanied the team for the training session only.

Our ASM MX riders will be competing in the ‘MX2-250cc over 21’ Class. This is the most populated and challenged class and each of the three Heats last about 20mins each lap.

The ASM hope to get good results on race day as its riders have clocked very good practice times when compared to the track records.

In the meantime the ASM riders will be prepared for this race. They have already competed in a beach-cross event in Calabria but Motocross racing is their trend.

ASM hopes that the weather will be kind to them to be able to safely be in Giarrizzo in Agrigento on Sunday 23 October for this prestigious Motocross competition.
