We have had another full week with five games being played, three involving the Marsa C.C team.

On the Monday, the Marsa team took on returning team Elmdon C.C from England , who the day before beat SGS Holland. This was Elmdon’s second tour to the island, their first was just over a year ago.

The Marsa team batted first with Dave Borg opening the batting and was demolishing the bowling and made 68 runs from 50 balls including five fours and three sixes along the way.

Andy Naudi was no slouch either, hitting a quickfire 52 runs from 25 balls which included three sixes and three fours. The Marsa team totalled a very reasonable 152 runs from their 20 overs. D.Morgan and S. Mohammed were the only wicket takers for Elmdon.

In reply Elmdon could only muster up 84 runs with S. Mohammed top scoring with 21 runs, T. Straten 15 runs and D. Morgan 12 runs. For Marsa, Mike Caruana was the main wicket taker with three. Marsa win the game and Elmdon are yet to win against Marsa.

On Wednesday the Marsa team played the second game against SGS Holland. The Marsa team batted first and if it was not for John Grima’s 43 runs, the final score of 99 runs would have been much worse.

S.A Mohammed and A. Tomlinson took two wickets each while P V Noord and M. Meerdink took a wicket each.

SGS had a horrible start in the run chase which gave the Marsa team hope of winning. They had lost six wickets for 42 runs. This brought together R V D Berg (37 runs) and P V Noord (27) who steadied their team to a good victory. With this win SGS squared the series. For Marsa Alan Swift had a wonderful return to cricket taking three wickets.

On Sunday the Marsa team took on returning team Saracens who the day before beat SGS. Saracens’ last tour was in 2007.

Saracens batted first in this encounter. The Marsa team managed to bowl them out for 106 even after conceding 44 extras. Nowell Khosla, Sarfraz Ali, Adam Krishna and Gordon Hewitt all took two wickets each. For Saracens, M. Ayre top scored with 13 while C. Knighton scored 11 runs, A. Bigby and K. Gough 10 runs each were the main scorers.

The Marsa team with the batting line up they had should of made the runs. M. Bigby had other ideas and took an impressive six wickets which destroyed the Marsa team. R.Gough chipped in with two wickets. For Marsa Andy Naudi top scored with 18 runs and John Rusher 11 runs. The Marsa team have yet to beat the Saracens.C.C.
