Two quick goals scored in the first part of the second half decided this interesting and entertaining match between Naxxar Lions and Dingli SwalLows. The result could’nt have been fairer as no team deserved to win, or better still deserved to lose.

It must be said that both sides played their hearts out and kept searching for the winning goal till the final whistle.

Dingli were the better team in the opening stages of both halves, but Naxxar came back strongly and were surely the better team in the dying moments of the first and second half.

Darren Falzon played another great match for the Lions, whilst Leontiev Konda and Warren Chircop were the best players for Dingli, with the latter scoring a well taken goal to put Dingli in the lead.

On 16 minutes Dingli had their first chance and the best of the whole match when Chris Azzopardi passed towards Leontiev Konda whose shot was somehow saved by Spiteri’s outstretched leg. Minutes later it was Warren Chircop who rounded a defender but his effort went slightly off target.

The Lions hit back on 35 minutes when Darren Falzon nodded the ball towards John Debono who hesitated in front of goal giving defender Owusu ample time to block his shot.

Naxxar were dominant in the final minutes of the first half going near with a De Lima Siqueira dipper sailing over the bar, and a John Debono grounder missing the base of the upright by a whisker.

On the resumption, a Warren Chircop grounder missed the base of the upright by inches, but on the hour Warren Chircop was not to be denied when he chipped the ball beautifully past Spiteri after an impressive run on the left.

Dingli’s joy was shortlived as Naxxar were back on level terms seven minutes later when Darren Falzon shielded the ball well before passing towards substitute Glenn Magri who hammered the ball home from close range.

Both sides continued in their quest to obtain the winning goal, with Naxxar more dangerous in the final minutes.
