Rabat Depiro 1
Young Stars 3
Umpires: Paul Brincat, Manwel Imbroll
Rabat exerted early pressure and were looking pretty comfortable for the first 20 minutes of the game played in very difficult weather conditions.
Young Stars forced two penalty corners in the 27th and 29th minutes and took the lead in 33rd minute through Marvin Vella after a lapse by the Rabat defence.
Rabat attacked early in the second half, forcing two penalty corners, but after a period of pressure, it was Young Stars who doubled their lead in the 59th minute through Chris Bonello.
Young Stars went further ahead in the 63rd minute through Chris Attard who scored the third goal for his team.
At this point it was game over although Rabat managed to pull one back in the 65th minute when Thomas Sammut scored.
Qormi 4
Sliema Hotsticks 1
Umpire: Reno Cremona, Alain Vella
Early Qormi pressure followed by an exchange of penalty corner activity produced no dividend for either team.
However in the 20th minute Qormi went ahead through John Williams following a crisp move.
Hotsticks immediately hit back and in the 23rd minute Silas Plaehn equalised.
The game suddenly sprung to life and in the 26th minute John Williams scored his and Qormi’s second goal when Hotsticks’ defence was caught out by a short counter attack.
The second half was void of further exciting moments also due to the effect of the inclement weather, but Qormi controlled proceedings by hanging back and using counter attacks to deadly effect.
This produced a third goal in the 55th minute by Jonathan Borg and was followed by a fourth scored by veteran Rudolph Camilleri in 65th minute.
