Valletta   1

Pembroke   1

This game was played under a continious drizzle which caused many waterlogged patches on the field of play thus rendering ball control very difficult. Both teams won their first point from four games.

Valletta opened the score after 55 seconds when Paul Lapira served Russell Fenech with a through ball who shot past Pembroke keeper Jake Tanti after entering the area. Minutes later Tanti foiled Clint Zammit with a timely sortie after he was put through in the area by Mirco Vella.

In the first action by Pembroke, Mark Zammit served Fausto Pellegrino with a cross from the right and City keeper Daniel Attard saved his close-range shot.

Pembroke restored parity in the eighth minute when Glenn Gregory served Pellegrino in the area and he netted with a lobbed ball.

Valletta regained the initiative and created all the actions up to the half time whistle. Tanti saved a shot by Edward Camilleri after a Zammit through ball in the area.

Edward Camilleri was then fouled on the left flank, Leon Camilleri served Zammit with a short pass outside the area and Tanti denied him with a diving save in two attempts.

Later Mirco Vella pounced on a loose ball outside the area and hit the bar with a shot that had Tanti completely beaten.

Pembroke mounted the first two actions after the restart. Liam Saliba was fouled outside the area, Roderick Caruana served the same player with a short pass but he drove off target from outside the area. Pellegrino was fouled on the right flank, Liam Triganza served Saliba in the area and Attard denied him with a diving save.

Valletta then mounted two actions in a row. Kieron Grima served Zammit in the area and he drove out from one metre with only Tanti to beat. Then after Grima was fouled outside the area the ball hit the base of the upright from the free kick taken by Zammit.

The last action before the end was created by Pembroke when substitute Michael Saliba was fouled on the left flank and the ball was headed away from the free kick by Roderick Cremona.
