Malta Independent Tuesday, 25 October 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Time Trial champion Etienne Bonello of Team Greens left his mark in the final race of the season with a splendid performance at the Sicilian Time Trial championships.

The race saw over 90 riders taking the start at the Pergusa car racing track. Bonello covered the 10km distance in 13:22 to finish in second place overall, 26 seconds short from race winner Sebastiano Marino of Team Gruppo Rubino. However this put him in first place in his category.

Jason Vella and Gerard Said also showed some firing power as they placed fifth and eighth overall and first and second in their respective category.

Marie Claire Aquilina had a fine return after a brief layoff with a second place in the female category while Joseph Bonello finished a creditable seventh in his category.

Team Greens head Charles Sammut had words of praise on the team’s showing in Pergusa. “This was the best way to end another successful season. Having three riders in the top ten was no small feat for the guys. They’ve been working hard all year and the results keep pouring in,” he commented.

Team Greens enters the off season with the road race and time trial titles won by Bonello and MTB Cross Country title by Vella.

The trip was made possible with the assistance of Greens Supermarket, BBB Bike parts and Virtu Ferries.
