Patrick Curmi Set to take Coleiro’s place as Tarxien coach

Malta Independent Wednesday, 26 October 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Tarxien Rainbows held an urgent meeting yesterday evening to choose a new first-team coach after they parted ways with Mr Noel Coleiro after a disastrous start to the season.

After a positive campaign last year, in which the club went close to securing a place in the Europa Cup, more was expected this season with the introduction of new foreigners. Furthermore many considered the club as a top three favourite. This unfortunately did not materialise as it has turned out to possibly be the worst start since the Rainbows returned to the top flight.

According to sources close to The Malta Independent, the club committee yesterday decided that Mr Patrick Curmi, whose contract as Birkirkara coach was terminated earlier this month, is to lead the Rainbows for the rest of the season.

Mr Curmi coached Marsa, Pieta’ Hotspurs and Msida St Joseph before joining Marsaxlokk mid-way through the 2008/09 season. He went on to win the First Division championship the following year.

Curmi joined Birkirkara this summer replacing Mr Paul Zammit who had not been offered a new contract but the latter was reinstated as Birkirkara coach after Curmi’s sacking.
