Squash: Four Teams taking part in club challenge trophy

Malta Independent Thursday, 27 October 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

With the sport of squash still on a high from its successful haul of four gold medals in the last Games of the Small States of Europe held in Liechtenstein, the squash club challenge trophy has now a record of four teams participating namely, Cynergi Health and Fitness Club, LivingWell Health Club, Marsa Sports Club and this year’s new entry, Union Club.

Each team will comprise seven players of which two will be of an ‘A’ standard (experienced players), two from a ‘B’ standard (players with some experience) and three ‘C’ players (with little or no experience).

Each player will be ranked accordingly from one to seven within the team and will play against their matched counterpart from other teams making this challenge extremely balanced and interesting to watch.

The entire challenge will be spread over eight months with each venue hosting twice. This year’s challenge will hit off on Saturday 29 October from 1pm onwards at LivingWell, last year’s trophy winners. The first round will finish in January with the second round just finishing prior to the Malta Open.

The Squash Club Challenge team captains are Nigel Dunkerley (Cynergi), Christer Gustafsson (LivingWell), Robert Sultana (Marsa) and Liz Said (Union Club).

All match days are open to the public and anyone interested in joining is urged to contact their respective club.
