The junior summer waterpolo season finally came to an end with the KO competition finals of the Under-14 and Under-16 teams.
Five teams took part in the Under-16 competition - Exiles, Neptunes, Otters, Sirens and Sliema.
Five teams also took part in the Under-14 competition - Exiles, Neptunes, San Giljan, Sirens and Sliema.
The Under-14 final was played last Friday between Exiles and Sliema with Sliema emphatically winning 12 – 2.
Sliema’s scorers were Michele Mifusd with five goals, Luke Hyzler with three goals, Jeremy Abela and Nicholas Bugelli with two goals each.
Luca Borg scored Exiles’ two goals.
The Sliema team was led by Keith Grima Scott and Joe Sciortino was in charge of the Exiles team.
After the game ASA President Joe Caruana Curran presented the Exiles captain, Jake Diedo, with the runners-up trophy and Sliema ASC captain, Zach Sciberras, with the winners’ trophy.
The Under-16 final was played last Sunday, again between Sliema and Exiles. Sliema narrowly won this match 6-4.
Sliema’s goals were scored by Aleandro and Michele Mifsud who scored two goals each while Nicholas Bugelli and Mark Fenech both scored a goal each; for Exiles Jimmy Xuereb scored two goals, Jake Diego and Julian Pace scored a goal each.
The Sliema team was led by Sergio Afric and Aurelien Cousin led the Exiles team.
After the game AS. President Joe Caruana Curran presented the Exiles captain, Phillip Paris with the runners-up trophy and the winners’ trophy to Sliema ASC captain Zach Sciberras.
Both finals were watched by a good number of parents and supporters who attended both matches.
This is the first time that the two age-groups have had a KO competition organised and is in line with policy of the ASA Junior Waterpolo Committee to keep the junior waterpolo players active throughout the year and November will see the start of the Under-15 and Under-17 Winter Leagues as well as various competitions for the Under-13s and Under-11s.
