Horse-racing: Finals Days at the Marsa racetrack

Malta Independent Friday, 28 October 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

It will be festa atmosphere at the Marsa racetrack this weekend, with five finals from the trotters’ Cassar Fuels Autumn Championship over a 2,140m distance.

These finals will be spread over two meetings; i.e. the first on Friday at 6.45pm and the other on Sunday at 1.30pm.

Friday’s meeting will feature finals for the Copper and Silver classes. Although these may not be as prestigious as the Premier and Gold classes, the two finals will feature some extremely in-form horses with very balanced races being in the offing.

One of the other races in Friday’s eight race card is an interesting encounter race involving Maltese and Swedish drivers which should enable our drivers to acquire more international exposure.

Sunday’s nine race card will include finals for the Bronze, Gold and Premier classes. The Premier class final will feature five French and five Swedish horses including some of the most competitive horses in Malta this year.

The 12 horses in the Gold class final constitute a very international field, with participants hailing from no less than five different countries. This should be another exciting final and includes various horses which are close to promotion to the Premier class.

No doubt … although horse-racing is always a spectacular sport, excitement peaks on finals days, with all owners coveting the trophy for which their horses are competing.
