Vittoriosa S 0

St George’s 0

The much expected Cottonera derby resulted in a drab affair with no goals scored in front of a sizeable crowd. However tempers flared in stoppage time with three players sent off.

It was a disappointing performance from both sides with very few scoring chances. For Vittoriosa it was a positive result following two heavy defeats, with the Saints moving further up in the table.

In injury time Vittoriosa’s Rocha Dos Santos and the Saints’ Amadeo Mercieca and Heathcliff Schembri were sent off for dissent.

Pieta H 2

St Patrick 1

In a clash between the team at the top Pieta’, and the team at the bottom of the table, St Patrick, the leaders beat the Saints 2-1, to secure their place at the top of the grid with 16 points.

Pieta’ opened the scoring after 20 minutes thanks to Zach Muscat’s first-timer, and the Saints equalised 2 minutes before the break thans to Blendi Gockaj’s effort from outside the area.

Five minutes into the second half, Jurgen Pisani’sheader handed Pieta’ a deserved victory.

Zejtun C 1

Birzebbuga 0

Zejtun returned to winning form beating ten-man Birzebbuga thanks to a Gers Delia goal fifteen minutes from time.

Birzebbuga were better in the first half but Zejtun dominated the second half even missing a penalty on the hour through Ganchev. Birzebbuga lost Kevin Borg midway through the second half when he received a second yellow card.

Birzebbuga goalkeeper Casha made some daring saves but could not stop Delia’s strike on 75 minutes.

Naxxar L 0

Lija A 0

In a match characterised by the many bookings and nasty fouls on both sides, Naxxar and Lija gained a point each from their goalless duel. The match was quite balanced, where both teams had their fair share of scoring opportunities, but all in all the result was just.

Naxxar went close to scoring in the 55th minute, when after fleeing the Lija defence, Ige’s strike went inches wide.

The best opportunity for Lija came in the 70th minute, when after Spiteri temporarily blocked Bue’s shot, Scicluna’s effort from the rebound failed to reach the uncustoded posts.
