Malta football striker Etienne Barbara, right, seems to be on the brink of a move which will take him playing in Vancouver, Canada.
His coach at Carolina RailHawks, Martin Rennie, has been appointed coach at Vancouver in the Major League Soccer and he is expected to take over with him not only fellow Scot Paul Ritchie as his assistant, but also some of the players, including Etienne Barbara.
A report in The Vancouver Sun Online newspaper said that it is quite likely that the 29-year-old Barbara will move on to join Rennie at Vancouver, especially after having left such a good impression with Carolina where he scored 20 goals.
Rennie had signed Barbara for Carolina RailHawks after watching him play a match in Malta. Then he described Barbara as follows: “He’s got pace, power and he can finish and he’s just an all-around player. He’ll add a lot to our squad.”
Before leaving Malta for the US, Barbara had expressed his wish that one day he would get the chance to play in Major League Soccer, the top competition in North America.
