Melita 4

Dingli S 0

Melita continued their surge in the top places of the table with an easy victory over lowly Dingli in a one sided match.

Dingli were dominant in the first half, a half in which a player from each side was sent off. In the second half Melita left the initiative in their opponents’ hands, but were a constant menace in their fast breaks, scoring three further goals in the process, to obtain their second consecutive victory with a big margin, after their 4-1 drubbing of Vittoriosa.

Melita were always on the offensive in the first period even though their attempts at goal were very scarce, and apart from the goal scored they only went close on another instance from a close range header.

Melita opened the score on 25 minutes when Manuel Ramon Sierra Camacho headed home a well taken freekick by Kane Micallef. Dingli failed to react as Steve Meilak, Etienne Farrugia and Leontiev Konda never threatened the Melita rearguard.

On 32 minutes Dingli were dealt another blow when Paolo Ciantar was sent for retaliation. Melita went close to double the score a few minutes later with a close range header by Gribbon going inches wide.

Just before the break Melita were also reduced to ten players when Tobias Terpougoff was shown a second yellow, with referee Spiteri rather hesitant in his decisions.

On the resumption Dingli tried to push their way forward but on 55 minutes Melita ripped Dingli’s defence apart with a well executed move. Matthew Borg passed towards Julian Galea whose inch perfect pass found Kane Micallef all alone in front of goal, and the Melita striker made no mistake with a nice chip that gave Farrugia no chance to save.

Kurt Formosa tested Sapiano from the edge of the area, but on 63 minutes Melita were three goals up. Credit goes to Luke Micallef who did the running on the right, before crossing towards Kane Micallef, who scored his second goal from close range.

Six minutes from time Cornago San Pedro floated a good cross in the heart of the Dingli penalty area, and Kane Micallef first timed in the top corner of the net to obtain his hat trick.
