FIFA says England players cannot wear a symbol on their shirts to mark Remembrance Day when they play Spain next week because of rules prohibiting political gestures.
FIFA says it rejected the English Football Association's request to use the poppy emblem to remember those who have lost their lives in service since World War I.
FIFA rules on uniform and equipment state that "they should not carry any political, religious or commercial messages."
FIFA says it respects England's wish to remember "the lives of members of their armed forces."
They agreed to observe a minute's silence before kick off when England plays Spain on 12 November at Wembley, the day after Remembrance Day.
