‘Double Talk’

Malta Independent Wednesday, 9 November 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 16 years ago

Strange but true! Some local politicians tend to change their way of expressing their point according to the media they talk to. If they are interviewed by Net TV they tend to picture the comment as rosy as possible but if they are on ONE TV their view is very negative. In one word they try to please both sets of viewers. A recent case in point was what EU Commissioner John Dalli stated in two separate interviews on the two political stations.

Appearing on a one-to-one programme on ONE TV, Inkontri, Mr Dalli stated that in the last few years the local economy has stagnated and very few are reaping good dividends as contracts are being given only to the chosen few whilst others are finding it hard to make both ends meet. Barely a few days later, Mr Dalli was one of the main speakers during an AZAD seminar. Interviewed by NET TV afterwards, the EU Commissioner praised the government for projecting a healthy economy which is helping people to live a comfortable life because there is a place for everyone. Unbelievable. But very true.

Do these politicians realise that they are losing credibility?
