The 49th race meeting of the season was held at the Malta racecourse on Sunday.

Ten races were on the card, eight trot races on the long distance of 3140m and two Flat races for thoroughbreds on 2250m.

The main race, the Exotique Challenge Cup Final was won by Kimberly Downs, ridden superbly by top Maltese jockey Michael Sultana. The race was evenly paced up until the last three furlongs as Sultana’s charge sprinted ahead to take the lead which it never let go till the end, to finish a good four lenghts ahead of the rest of the field. Well done to Kimberly Downs for another magnificent win, its fifth of the season.

The other Flat race was won by Nuage De La Tour (R Grima) ahead of Salsiane.

The Premier class race for trotters had the crowd on their feet in the last 500 metres as Energy Launcher (A Cortis) sprinted on the outside to take its sixth seasonal win by a small margin just ahead of newcomer Nous Dix de l’Erve (M Ghigo).

The drivers of the day were Mario Falzon and Julian Farrugia with two wins each on Yotara Meerswal (Copper) and Naja in Blue (Gold) (second consecutive win) for Mario Falzon and Magnifique Sablais at an impressive eighth seasonal win (Gold) and Narcus du Roc (Silver) at its fifth seasonal win, for Julian Farrugia.
