Tomorrow will be a big day for Maltese Motorsport enthusiasts. For the first time ever, the Malta motorsport Federation, together with the Naxxar Local Council is organising the First Naxxar Motorsport Festival in aid of L-Istrina – Gurnata Sport Mill-Qalb.
George Abdilla – General Secretary of the MMF in a press conference at the Naxxar Local Council offices – explained that the Naxxar Motorsport Festival will bring around 30 clubs together in a day full of activities.
There will be the longest Hill Climb on the Island – a 2.8 km run starting from nearly Salina and finishing just after the T’Alla W’Ommu hill roundabout, a Drag (race) Hill Climb, a drift show, a DB Drag competition, and various static displays by Classic and Vintage cars, modern cars, bikes and trucks, The Bahar ic-Caghaq Administrative Council will be organising a car wash as part of the activities. All proceeds will go towards L-Istrina.
The event will start at 9am and will last till 4pm. The road starting from Salina to the Gharghur roundabout will be closed to traffic starting between 7am and 5pm. Residents will be able to exit via the service roads and in collaboration with the organisers. Static car display owners interested to participate may call on 79219999 for further information.
Dr Maria Deguara – the Naxxar Mayor said she was very pleased to host this motoring event. Naxxar LC believed strongly in the positive contribution such events bring to the locality, to tourism and to the enthusiasts. It also noted that this event would serve to help the more needy through contributions to L-Istrnia.
Clyde Puli, Parliamentary Secretary for Youth and Sport said he was very pleased to assist the Motorsport community in such ventures and augured that this event will end up as a yearly sporting event in the local motorsport calendar.
