The Malta Volleyball Association will be having a busy 2012 as it has again been entrusted with the hosting of no less than three qualifying tournaments. Together with the running of the domestic competitions, the MVA has once again been successful in bidding for a number of international competitions.
The new year will be heralded with the Girls’ Junior ECH Qualifying Group, which will be held between 13 and 15 January. The MVA’s participation in this tournament will be purely for ‘investment in the future’ purposes as most of the Maltese girls will be available for the same competition in two years time.
The Senior Men Qualification Group will be held between 25 and 27 May, while the Senior Women Qualification Group will be held between 29 June and 1 July. All competitions relate to the Small Countries Division (SCD). The Senior Women - Final Tournament of ECH -SCD 2013 has also been scheduled to be held in Malta.
Following the success of the Maltese girls in the GSSE Beach Volley Tournament, the MVA has proposed the organisation of a Beach Volleyball - SCD event - which is likely to be held in Malta in September 2012.
President Branko Vlahovic said that the MVA was committed to increasing the participation of the Maltese national teams in international tournaments and to improve the level of the game in Malta. For this reason, together with the already confirmed competitions, the MVA will also be attempting to organise an FIVB coaching course at Level 1 to increase the number of qualified coaches on the Island.
