Hibernians FC was among 13 sports organisations which had public land devolved to them to further develop their facilities.
Parliamentary Secretaries Clyde Puli and Jazon Azzopardi, and Hibernians president Tony Bezzina addressed the signing ceremony
Mr Puli said 16 tracts of land valued commercially at about €2 million were being passed to the 13 clubs. The devolution makes the clubs responsible to promote sustainable activities. The government, he added, is helping sports organisations by the Sports Tourism scheme, to which the government each year votes €250,000.
Dr Azzopardi said a huge tract of land which till today was being used for industrial purposes, is being transferred to young and sports people. Through the devolution Hibernians FC will develop its new facilities, which include a bocci court, a medical centre, a multi-purpose stadium, and a swimming pool.
This land transfer was the biggest made by the Lands Department over the last three years, Dr Azzopardi said. It occupies just under 10 tumoli of land.
