Endurance racing was the main attraction at last Sunday’s horse racing meeting as the races on the card (all trot events) were over the long distance of 3,140m.
The main attractions were the two Premier class races reserved for the top trotters on the Island.
In the first one, MICA BONERO (David Galea) had a quiet race in the middle of the pack but as the horses turned for the last straight it sprinted four wide to take the lead, finishing two lengths ahead of runner-up TROY BOSHOEVE.
In the other Premier class race, those present witnessed a great finale between two newcomers recently imported from France.
Debutant MIG OF THE WOOD (Noel Baldacchino) burst out from the middle of the compact group in the final stages of the race to claim its first victory in Malta. Second was another newcomer, NEVAIO DES BORDES (Brian Hili), who also had a good race, recovering a lot of lost ground after a bad start to the race.
MILANO DU GITE (Alex Cortis) and KNOCKOUT MOLAR (Charles Camilleri) were the winners in the Gold Class races with the former registering the day’s best time of 1’17’7 per kilometre.
The four winners in the Silver Class races were French newcomer OYOS (Mario Farrugia), MAGNUM (France Gauci), NAGANO PHEDO (Christian Xerri) and CROSS COUNTRY F.C. (Marco Debono).
The other race winners were HAWKEAR (Charles Camilleri), LADY HOLMELY (Jeffrey Said) and ORLOV DU PONCELET (Julian Farrugia) all in the Bronze Category.
