Marsa CC Beat visiting Pimlico CC

Over the weekend the Marsa C.C played a two game series against new touring team Pimlico Stollers C.C.

On Saturday the Marsa Team won the toss and elected to bat.

Nowell Khosla and Malcolm Crabbe opened the innings. Crabbe was first to go trying to pull the ball, getting a bottom edge and the ball falling onto the stumps. Crabbe scored five runs.

Tony Azzopardi was next man in. He scored twenty five runs before being stumped. Andy Naudi now joined Khosla, who together put on a match winning partnership of 79 runs. Khosla was caught and had made 60 runs which included four fours. Naudi went on to top score with 89 runs and that included ten fours. Sam Aquilina made four runs, Sunny Krishna three and Joy Ghoseroy 17. Aided with 21 extras, the home team totalled 224 runs from their 40 overs.

For the Pimlico team, S. Boughey was the main wicket taker with three, G. Brown took two and G. Richardson one.

At the break, the rain came and the second innings was reduced to 30 overs and the target was revised to 169 runs for the Pimlico team to win.

The visitors managed 128 runs with S. Fowler top scoring with 42 runs.

Including two fours and a six, M. Morgan scored 25 runs and T. Sturm 22 as the main run scorers. For Marsa Adam Krishna, Gordon Hewitt and Joy Ghoseroy were the wicket takers. Marsa win the game.

On Sunday the visitors batted first in the 20 over encounter. They totalled 103 runs. T. Sturm was their main scorer with 31 runs, C. Deavin, scored 12 and D. Couldrey 11.

For Marsa, Mike Caruana and Stuart Clarke were the main wicket takers with two each. Darren Grech, Robert Krishna and Richard Rogers took a wicket each.

The Marsa team were struggling to keep up with the run rate until the 17th over when 22 runs were taken from it which then paved the way for the win by the locals.

Mark G Sacco opened the batting and almost batted through to the win: he made 31 runs, Frank Spiteri top scored with a fine 34 runs.

For the visitors, J. Gillies and C. Lucas took two wickets each while G. Brown took one.

Next Saturday the 20-over Summer League begins with Marsa C.C playing Krishna C.C, starting at 9.45am. The Marsa team will then be playing against HMS St.Albans in a 20-over game at 1.30pm.

Saturday morning will also have the Sunoco Cricket academy/nursery which will be from 9am till 10.30am..
