Toyota Playvolley 1
Although Fleur de Lys beat Toyota Playvolley by three sets to one, this surely was no easy task.
During each of the sets, Fleur de Lys raced ahead of Playvolley, however, many unforced errors and the tenacity of Playvolley paid off, with the latter always managing to level the score towards the end of the set.
Playvolley shocked Fleur de Lys by taking the first set rather comfortably. Diandra Caruana and Maria Costa both played good volleyball for Playvolley.
However, a good performance by Claire Tonna helped Fleur de Lys win the second and third set (26-24, 26-24) and this paved the way to winning the fourth and final set in a more convincing manner.
Second Division
Tatara Rabat 3
Playvolley School 0
Saturday’s game saw Tatara Rabat taking over Playvolley school and the game took just and hour to finish with Rabat never in danger of losing a set.
Rabat coach took the initiative from the 1st set to give some fringe players ample time to prove they can have their place in the starting line-up. The first set was won 25 – 17.
In the second set Rabat gave no chance to Playvolley winning easily by 25 – 9.
The third and final set proved Rabat being in total control of the game, winning easily 25-13.
Mellieha 3
Flyers Depiro U-18 0
Mellieħa showed their superiority over their opponenets Flyers Depiro U18 as they won 3-0 in the match played last Saturday.
The first set started out with Nadine Galea serving for Mellieħa. This put Mellieħa immediately into an advantage. A series of strong attacks made sure that Mellieħa kept their lead throughout the set and thus winning at 25-17.
The second set didn’t start well for Mellieħa, in fact Flyers Depiro managed to take the lead. A stand still situation was stopped after Nadine Bondin brought home five consecutive services.
Mellieħa regained ground over Flyers and managed to win the second set at 25-17.
Mellieħa started the third set with an advantage, which was maintained throughout the set resulting in winning the third set with a favourable score of 25-11.
Strong services on Mellieħa’s side were constant throughout the game and this undermined Flyers Depiro’s defences.
The game was highlighted by several rallies and strong attacks by both teams.
Paola U18 3
Qormi 1
Under their newly appointed coach Steve Attard, Qormi gave a younger but more experienced Paola team a run for their money.
Qormi captain Elaine Farrugia was the most decisive player for Qormi with good defence and attacks with troubled Paola.
On the other hand, Denise Grech could be considered one of Paola’s best players – on a day where more established players did not produce their usual performances.
