Trading activity during the last session of the week on the Malta Stock Exchange ended on a positive note as the Index gained 0.6 per cent to close at the 3,157.427 level. This occurred when gains were registered in four equities made up for the losses registered in another equity. In the equity market, activity was spread across eight equities as investors negotiated an aggregate of 190,045 shares spread across 35 deals.
The session’s best performer was Crimsonwing as the equity rose by 5c or 16.7 per cent to close at €0.350. Trading activity in the company resulted when 30,000 shares were transacted across two deals.
Meanwhile, GO and International Hotel Investments shares also ended the session in positive territory. Prices rose by 3c and 2c1 to close at €1.060 and €0.840 respectively.
Medserv shares also ended the day with gains as the equity rose by 11c or 2.9 per cent to close at €3.950. Investors in the company transacted 4,673 shares across four deals.
In the banking sector, FIMBank shares closed the day without registering any change to their share price, closing at $0.770. Trading activity in the dollar denominated equity resulted when 13,000 shares were exchanged over three deals. Malta International Airport shares also closed unaltered at the €1.690 level.
Likewise, Bank of Valletta (BOV) also ended the day unchanged as it closed at €2.500. BOV was nevertheless the day’s most actively traded equity as 19,600 shares were negotiated across ten deals for a market consideration of €49.151.35.
Meanwhile, Lombard Bank Malta shares was the sole equity which closed in negative territory as it declined by 1c or 0.4 per cent to close at €2.730. The bank was also the session’s most liquid equity as investors exchanged 64,892 shares across eight deals.
In the fixed interest sector of the market activity was spread across 15 corporate bonds and four government stocks. In the corporate bond market sentiment was mixed as six bonds closed unchanged, four ended higher while five ended lower. The day’s best performer was the 4% AX Investments 2013 bond which gained 3.7 per cent to close at €127.500.
