Malta Independent Tuesday, 22 November 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Sirens ASC have appointed ex-Malta goalkeeper Joe Caruana Dingli as first team coach.

After a long and distinguished career as a player Joe turned to coaching, guiding Exiles to two Second Division titles and last year managed to get the Sliema team to its first ever KO Final.

Joe is one of a very small group of players to have won the league title with three different clubs, namely Valletta, Sliema and Sirens. In the seven seasons at the St Paul’s Bay club, Sirens won no less than 12 titles, including two league Championships and five KO competitions.

Joe was captain of the national team for 10 years during which time Malta achieved its best results ever on the international stage, including bronze medals in the 2002 European B Championships and the Commonwealth Games in Manchester. In the latter competition Joe was voted “Player of the Tournament”.
