Please let me declare my bias at the outset. I have known Paul Hili for years. During my time at the GWU he used to chair our union meetings as President of one of the trade sections. He also represented Air Malta employees not only as a Shop Steward but also as part of the negotiating team during the collective agreement discussions. He always distinguished himself for his altruistic traits and his leadership skills. He has always been instrumental in reaching agreement whenever we dealt with conflict. I know him as a gentleman with a golden heart towards those in need. Paul was and still is a family man. Unfortunately, for the past 5 years or so he was deprived from staying close to his loved ones. He is serving a sentence of 12 years imprisonment for committing a crime in 2003. He was charged with attempted murder for hitting a youngster during a road rage incident. I am morally convinced that Paul Hili has paid a very high price for his actions. I am convinced that Paul has been redeemed and he deserves to rejoin his family. I am informed that during his time in prison he took initiatives and dedicated his time and energy to help young people and other inmates. With all the current talk about justice reform, parole, remission and rehabilitation I dont see any reason why Paul Hili should not be released and allowed to integrate once again within society.
