Cricket: Start Of 20-over winter league

Saturday saw the beginning of the 20-over Winter league and the last game against a touring side.

Marsa C.C took on Krishna C.C in the first game. The Marsa team batted first and totalled 75 runs from their overs with Adam Caruana denying the Krishna team the extra bowling point. Mike Caruana top scored with 29 runs from 29 balls faced. Second highest score was extras with 19.

Andrea Caruana, playing in his first game, managed to score three runs. For the Krishna team Gregg Symons was the main wicket taker with three. Kevin Krishna, Tony Slater, Ronnie Sacco and Dhruv Duggal all took a wicket each.

The Krishna team made the runs within 15 overs, with extras being the top scorer with 23, Nowell Khosla scored 20 and Dhruv Duggal t13.

For Marsa, Martin Llewlyn was the only wicket taker with two.

From the win the Krishna team earned nine points while the Marsa team earned no points.

The second game of the day was played between the Marsa C.C and the HMS St.Albans.

The Marsa team batted first and were bowled out in the 19th over for 104 runs.

Justin Brooke was the main run maker with 24 which included three fours. Nowell Khosla chipped in with 21 runs, also hitting three fours.

The HMS captain Barnwell did some serious damage to the middle order taking five wickets. Jones took three wickets while League and Glanville took a wicket each.

In reply, the visitors were bowled out for 74 runs with Barnwell again the main attraction top scoring with 20 runs. Adam Krishna ripped through the top order batsmen taking three wickets and the HMS did not recover.

Gordon Hewitt took two wickets, while Darren Grech, Adam Caruana, Tony Slater and Robert Krishna took a wicket each. Marsa won the game.

The HMS St.Albans was the 22nd team to play the Marsa team. All in all 42 games were played against visiting teams, mainly from the United Kingdom, but teams this year also came from Italy, Australia, Norway , Holland and the Royal English Navy.

The Marsa team won 24 games, lost 17 and one game had no result due to rain.

Tomorrow the Winter league continues with the Marsa C.C playing Melita Betfair C.C, starting at 9.45am. In the morning the Sunoco Cricket academy/nursery will be from 9am till 10.30am.
