Football: Qormi Aim to join Floriana in third place today

Malta Independent Friday, 25 November 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 16 years ago

Qormi will be aiming to join Floriana in third place this evening as the Premier League continues with another two matches at the Victor Tedesco Stadium in Hamrun.

In the first match, Sliema will be facing Mqabba, while in the second match, Qormi will be facing Balzan Youths.

In the opening clash, Sliema will have to play this match without Danial Mitev, Steve Bezzina and Josef Mifsud, all ruled out through suspension.

This means that Danilo Doncic will have to reshuffle his side although they will aim for the three points which will enable them to overtake Birkirkara in fifth place, at least temporarily - the Stripes will be playing on Sunday against Mosta.

The Blues have shown improvement of late, but the services of these three suspended players will certainly be missed this evening.

Mqabba, on the other hand, should be at full strength and will certainly provide the Blues with tough opposition, the same as they did last week to Floriana.

On that occasion, however, they let a precious point slip away from their hands in the final moments of the match as the Greens snatched a last-gasp winner.

In the second match this evening, Qormi will certainly be eager to register another victory after their impressive 2-0 win over Birkirkara on Monday evening.

Against Balzan today, it will not be easy as the Youths are also showing great commitment and are full of enthusiasm following their come from behind win against Hamrun last week.

Moreover, Qormi will be missing the services of the suspended Luke Sciberras and Stuart Duff. These absences will certainly make life more difficult for the Yellow Blacks.

If Stephen Azzopardi’s side wins again this evening, they will join Floriana in third place, on the 23-point mark, although the Greens will have Sunday’s match against Tarxien Rainbows in hand.
