Two racing meetings were held last weekend.
Friday’s meeting was a touch and go affair due to bad weather conditions, but in the end the Malta Racing Club’s decision to go ahead with the racing card proved to be the right one.
The three Prix de Caen heats for the Copper Class were the main races on Friday. The first heat was won by KAOLIN DE BANNES (E Fenech) while KOKO LOCO (J Gafa) and QUALOU D’AXEL (J Tabone) won the other two heats respectively.
Sunday’s meeting, in contrast, was held under a beautiful autumn sky and had some of Malta’s best trotters contesting the four Premier Class heats.
Twelve horses have now qualified for the President’s Cup Final scheduled for Tuesday 13 December.
TRUE Q (S Portelli) won the first heat after leading for most of the race, whilst NEC CARMOLO (N Baldacchino) sprinted strongly in the final straight to win the second. FLASH COGER (J Farrugia) won the next heat after withstanding a strong challenge from Malin Roro, whilst newcomer UTAH HORNLINE (R Clifton) had a dream debut to win the fourth.
Another feature race held on Sunday was the Local Council’s race.
Parliamentary Secretaries Dr Chris Said and Clyde Puli were present for this special occasion. The race attracted quite a lot of attention as those present could support their own councillors.
The winning council was Attard, represented by its mayor, Stefan Cordina.
