Rabat 3

Umpires: Raymond Micallef, Paul Brincat

The opening game of the league season initially provided a fairly balanced period of midfield action.

White Hart had a shot well saved in the 8th minute but fell behind when Mario Galea shot Rabat ahead in the 14th minute.

An exchange of penalty corners followed resulting in Rabat clearing a White Hart effort off their own goal line in the 30th minute.

James Azzopardi then shot Rabat further ahead to give his team a two nil lead on the stroke of half time.

The second half started off with a bang and Carl Tua pulled one back for White Hart in the 38th minute.

In the 43rd minute, after a penalty corner action, Christopher Bugeja’s cross was deflected into the White Hart net to give Rabat a 3-1 lead.

Although White Hart pressed hard, they failed to capitalise on a number of penalty corners which they won and the score remained unchanged until the final whistle.

Young Stars 1

Qormi 3

Umpires: Anthony Tabone, Silvano Vassallo

The match proved to be an entertaining and hard fought encounter especially in the first half.

After an opening period of balanced action Qormi took the lead in the 15th minute when Jonathan Borg rounded off a smart move.

Young Stars replied by forcing two penalty corners but were denied by Qormi’s goalkeeper, Ramon Chircop, who made a great save.

In the 28th minute Qormi doubled their tally when Gareth Dimech found the net.

In the second half Qormi were awarded a penalty stroke in the 43rd minute and Jonathan Borg scored his second and Qormi’s third.

This stung Young Stars into action and in the 45th minute Ivan Magro Dingli pulled one back.

They pressed further but were unable to change the scoreline despite having a couple of close scoring chances.
