KMS Girls On the Move

Malta Independent Sunday, 11 December 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Fully aware that the female gender may not be adequately represented in a number of sport disciplines and that a significant number of young girls pursue an inactive lifestyle, Kunsill Malti għall-iSport (KMS) is once again organising the Girls on the Move programme, free of charge and open for girls between the ages of 9 and 16 years with sessions, run by qualified coaches, held on Friday evenings.

The KMS Girls on the Move programme is intended to increase the opportunities for girls to participate in a sport or physical activity in a safe and supportive environment and start living a healthy lifestyle.

This year, KMS has increased the number of programme venues to four different ones, the KMS Cottonera Sports Complex, the KMS Kirkop Sports Complex, the Paola Hibs Nursery and the KMS Marsa Sports Complex.

There is a choice of training sessions in nine different sport disciplines namely athletics, basketball, football, hip-hop, handball, netball, rugby, self defence and volleyball.

Additionally, female adults (parents, guardians or relatives) accompanying the participating young girls are also being encouraged to take part in fitness sessions for adults which, for the first time, are being held along with the Girls on the Move sessions.
