Travelers

Malta Independent Thursday, 15 December 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 16 years ago

I refer to the leading article Travelers: Rome’s Roma problem, which appeared in The Malta Independent (13 December).

Anyone who arrives in Malta uninvited and undocumented qualifies for the title of illegal immigrant and you can rest assured that the people of Malta will never agree with having the aliens rammed down our gullets. If anything we shall harden our resolve to have them removed.

The absolute majority of Maltese have in the past expressed their aversion to hosting the aliens on various on-line polls and in the most uncertain terms.

It has been proven in Britain, that illegal immigrants contribute a very small token towards the GDP per capita. On the other hand they siphon off the welfare state and our taxes are being channeled towards their upkeep.

Indeed, whoever penned this article has a long way to go and is miles away from claiming to be Malta’s own Martin Wolf.

Editor’s note: The sheer intolerance of the opinion expressed in this newspaper’s leading article goes hand in hand with the same intolerance that this person clearly has of asylum seekers. The article in question was actually about the travelers’ problem in Rome, and not the problem in Malta.
