Karting In the streets of Luqa in aid of l-iStrina

Malta Independent Saturday, 17 December 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The Luqa Local Council with the support of the Island Karting Club (IKC) is promoting a family-friendly gathering for the people of the village as well as visitors to collect funds for the Malta Community Chest Fund on the occasion of l-iStrina.

The event is being held tomorrow, starting at 10am.

One of the main attractions is an invitation to young and not-so-young karting divers to show their driving skills on the roads of the village, namely St. Andrew’s Street, Dun Pawl Street and St. George’s Street.

This is not meant to be a Luqa Grand Prix, but simply a way for a group of talented karting drivers to have some fun in a few timed runs and provide entertainment to spectators in a safe environment for the benefit of people who might need some financial support.

Drivers of Motards and Scooters or Minimoto who are members of the Island Motorcycle Racing Club (IMRC) have also been invited to participate in the timed runs. Other drivers are being invited to exhibit their cars in a static car show along 9th April Street. A section of Carmel Street is being reserved for the paddock area for the karts, scooters and motards taking part in the timed runs.

Luqa village is used to the noise of civil aviation, so it will not be offended with the much lower sound of the revving karting engines or small vehicles. But in compensation, the villagers and their guests will also be treated to live music by DJ Bon from the village Square. Food and beverages will be available to complete the festive occasion.

The event is scheduled to start at 10am. At 3.30pm, the participants will gather at the new IKC podium, which has just been inaugurated by the Parliamentary Secretary for Youth and Sport, Hon. Clyde Puli, to mark the Island Karting Club’s 30th anniversary. The officials of the Luqa Local Council will distribute tokens and trophies to the participating drivers.
