An Ian Zammit goal scored seven minutes from time was enough for Mosta to qualify for the fourth round of the FA Trophy. This was the only good news for Mosta as otherwise they were far from impressive yesterday.

In fact Msida nearly sprang as they defended well with their goalkeeper Agius making some very good saves. It was a boring match with Mosta always on the offensive, but they lacked vison of play and found it very hard to penetrate Msida’s packed defence.

Mosta dominated the first half but could not penetrate Msida’s organized and packed defence. The first attempt at goal however came from Msida with Oswald Zammit testing Glenn Zammit from a distance. Mosta replied with an Ian Zammit freekick that was saved by John Agius who dived sideways to block.

On 20 minutes Ian Zammit made the running on the left flank and his shot was brilliantly saved by Agius. The same Ian Zammit missed a golden opportunity when he hesitated in front of goal, and Msida goalkeeper Agius saved an Mvondo header on 33minutes.

In Mosta’s last attempt of the first half Gilbert Martin shot slightly over the bar from an angle when he should have crossed towards the unmarked Mvondo.

On the resumption Mosta’s substitute Jonathan Bajada was dangerous with a fierce cross shot that Agius saved well. On 52 minutes Mvondo back heeled towards Gilbert Martin who was only blocked by an Agius desperate sortie.

Three minutes later John Agius made the best save of the match when he tipped into a corner a scorcher from Aboulezz. On 76 minutes Ian Zammit missed a sitter when he lobbed over the bar when all alone in front of Agius.

Seven minutes from time Mosta scored the winner. Credit goes to Mvondo who powered his way in the Msida penalty area and crossed towards Ian Zammit who managed to control the ball and beat Agius from an acute angle for Mosta’s winner.
