Xewkija Tigers beat Senglea Athletics 3-0 to be the only Gozitan team remaining in the last 16.

Xewkija were aggresive from the first minutes with Rodney Buttigieg effort after just one minute ending slightly over the crossbar. The same Buttigieg was well blocked by Senglea goalkeeper Bartolo a few minutes later.

Chris Camilleri’s effort for Xewkija on 27 minutes hit the post and from the rebound Azzopardi missed the target from close range.

The Tigers went ahead on the 34th when Camilleri found the net from a corner by Elton Vella.

After the break Senglea seemed rejuvinated and after seven minutes Brincat just missed the equaliser.

On the 59th Senglea had another chance with another shot from Brincat this time ending centimetres over the crossbar. A minute later the same Brincat incredibly missed the target after finding himself alone in the penalty area.

But it was Xewkija’s day as from an Elton Vella’s corner on 73 minutes goalkeeper Bartolo cleared on Mark Camilleri who easily headed the ball in the net.

Two minutes from time John Camilleri sealed the match and Xewkija’s qualification after he received from his brother Chris to easily score in an empty goal.
