Horse-Racing - French Trotters’ finals day at the Marsa racetrack

The largest crowd of the season followed the five SECF Championship finals reserved for French trotters, with great excitement and anticipation on Sunday at the Marsa racetrack.

The hero of the day was champion driver Noel Baldacchino. He claimed the top two finals and managed to pip his eternal rival Charles Camilleri for the ‘Driver of the year’ award by just one point, which he achieved in the last race.

The Premier Final was the pièce de résistance. At the start, Nelson du Val sprinted to take over the lead, closely followed by Nevaio de Bordes and Mig of the Wood. The race was run at a very fast pace from start to finish, with the time of 1’ 15’’ being the best timing for the last 30 months on the 2,640m distance.

The group was quite compact until the final turn when Mig of the Wood attacked from the outside to take over the lead and never looked back. Driver Baldacchino waved to the watching crowd just a few metres away before the finish line, certain of his win.

The Prix de Caen final (Copper) was won by Koko Loco (Jesmar Gafa), while Olifant du Puoy (Frans Tanti) claimed the Prix de Cagnes Sur Mer final (Bronze).

Label Chouan (David Ellul) was the winner in the Prix de Cabourg final (Silver) and Night Inlet (Noel Baldacchino) won the Prix d’Enghien final (Gold).
