Racing Season ends with festival style meeting

Malta Independent Thursday, 29 December 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The 2011 racing season ends on Friday 30 December with a varied, festival-style meeting starting at 1.30pm and consisting of 12 races.

The main attraction is the VOB Grand Final for Premier class trotters over a 2,640m distance, featuring the first five placed horses in the President’s Cup final and those in the Prix de Vincennes final for French trotters.

Six French and four Swedish horses are scheduled to compete in this challenge between some of the best and most in-form trotters in Malta, with a nail-biting race being in the offing.

The meeting also features three semi-finals for Gold class horses on the sprint 1,640m distance. The first four from each heat qualify for the Pavo Feeds Gold final being held in the same meeting.

Horse owners will occupy centre stage on Friday with six races from different trot classes in which horse owners will be driving their own horses. Some extremely keen races are anticipated with owners looking forward to entering the winners’ circle not just as owners but also as drivers.

We will also have an interesting Class A flat race with a full line-up of eight horses with different nationalities, four of which have already won at least once this year whilst the others (including a newcomer) are seeking their first seasonal win.

A truly varied meeting, which should provide relaxing holiday entertainment and a fitting end to the racing season.
