Malcolm Licari (photo) was yetserday officially unveiled as Floriana’s llatest signing as club president Johann Said made clear his intentions to strengthen further the squad.
Licari joins three other foreigners who were recruited in recent weeks, namely Togolese central defender Eric Akoto to fill the void of the injured Tyrone Farrugia, Nigerian striker Onome Sodje and Polish wide player Andre Grabowski.
All three have already made apperances in the Premier League this season. Malcolm Licari, formerly of Pieta Hotspurs and Marsaxlokk, returns to his first love as he is a Floriana Nursery product. Licari expressed his gratitude towards Floriana for showing faith in him and siad that he was eager to face a new challenge with this new but popular local club. He intends to work hard to put Floriana where they deserve.
Johann Said did not hide the fact that he had been chasing the services of Malcolm Licari since taking over the Floriana’s presidency and now, that he has secured his signature, Said is sure that Licari’s vast experience will help the club make better strides forward. Said confirmed that Floriana now have more players who are the club’s property and the present foreign players have shown strong character.
Floriana coach Micahel Woods expressed satisfaction at the fact that Floriana have almost reached their first objective - that of playing in the Championship Pool. The team will now focus on obtaining one of the top two places.
Meanwhile, Charles Micallef Swimming Pools Ltd was unveiled as the club’s new main sponsor. On behalf of the company, Charles Micallef pledged his support to Floriana and Johann Said as he had always done with previous presidents over the past years.
