Franco Debono Should resign

Malta Independent Monday, 9 January 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 16 years ago

Dr Franco Debono has said that he does not have confidence in Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi, and that the Prime Minister should resign.

But the other 33 Nationalist MPs do not have confidence in Dr Debono and the way he is putting this government in jeopardy.

So, using the Għaxaq MP’s same argument, it is Dr Debono who should resign, not the Prime Minister.

Dr Debono defends his position saying that he was elected by the people of the fifth district. But it is clear that he was elected on the PN ticket, and no Nationalist supporter who voted for him four years ago expected him to behave in this way. And this is why a petition is being organised to collect as many signatures as possible to demand his resignation as an MP.

Dr Debono has no other way out but to call it a day, and resign his parliamentary seat now, before he causes any more damage.

We need a government that is concentrated on the economic crisis, not on a person who boasts of getting full marks in religion in Form II.
