Dion Buhagiar, General Secretary of the Archery Association of Malta, and World Archery International Judge, has been confirmed by The World Archery Federation as the Chairman of the Judges Commission officiating at the Olympic Archery event at this year’s London Olympic Games.
Buhagiar has been involved in Archery as an athlete and official since 1993. He has competed at national and international level, and has won both the national outdoor and indoor championship on a number of occasions.
He became a World Archery Federation International Judge in 2003. Since reaching International Judge status he has officiated in a number of high profile events which include the Paralympic Archery event of the Beijing Paralympics - 2008, two World outdoor championships (Madrid, Spain 2005 and Ulsan South Korea 2009), one indoor World championship (Izmir, Turkey 2009), three Junior World championships (Lilleshall, UK, 2004, Merida, Mexico 2006, and Legnica, Poland 2011), as well as, a number of World Cup events, several European and FISU - University games.
He was also appointed as the World Archery Federation’s Technical Delegate to the Commonwealth Games – India 2010, where he was required to oversee every aspect of Commonwealth Archery Event.
He recently chaired the Judges’ Commission for the London Olympic Games, London Prepares series, test event at Lords Cricket Ground in October last year.
In addition to his Judging commitments he has served on the World Archery Federation’s International Judges’ Committee since 2007, and was recently elected for a second four-year term.
