The firm FXDD has become the Platinum sponsors of the Malta Football Association’s national teams, thanks to a sponsorship deal which was signed yesterday.
The company, which already sponsors the referees’ kits for season 2011-2012, will thus enhance the partnership that forms the backbone of a mutually fruitful agreement between the association and the reputable firm for the next two years.
Addressing the press yesterday, MFA president Norman Darmanin Demajo said this sponsorship came at the right time for the association. “The national teams had no sponsor for quite some time. Now for the next two years, we are assured of the support of FXDD, thanks to which we will also be able to charter flights for our away matches in the forthcoming World Cup campaign,” he said.
Darmanin Demajo said the sponsorship is not limited to just the national teams. In fact, part of the funds will be made available for a project at the Technical Centre in connection with the professional training of youngsters in the Soldano project which looks at reaping the benefits of talent among local young footballers.
Darmanin Demajo said the appointment of FXDD as Platinum sponsors was part of a strategic programme by the association geared towards the setting up of a sponsorship structure to provide the national teams with the necessary backing from firms of repute.
The structure will include the Platinum sponsors, a Gold sponsor and a number of Preferred Commercial partners. He added that until last year, Givova, the MFA’s technical sponsors, were the only national team sponsors. In fact, there has been no official sponsor for more than 10 years, he added.
He went on to thank the company and the staff at the Marketing Department of the MFA for the work undertaken to be able to reach this agreement which, he hoped, will be extended for more years in future.
James E. Green, Managing Director of FXDD, said his company had been attracted to Malta by, among others, the country’s solid banking system and added they were quick to decide coming to Malta as part of their commitment to business environment.
He added the company was glad to be supporting an association such as the MFA saying that Malta is a good base for their operations.
Darmanin Demajo would not divulge the amount of the sponsorship, but said that it was a considerable amount which could probably also be estimated to be the biggest ever for local football.
At the end, he thanked the association’s sponsors for being so supportive in funding football despite the doom and gloom being forecast for the year 2012.
