It was the first time the Island Car Club (ICC) organised an event in Kalkara giving a pleasant surprise to the drivers. Even if the hill is one of the shorter venues it still provided a challenging complex set of curves and chicanes.
With an average track time of 45 seconds, the drivers gave a good show demonstrating various cars handling when pushed to the limit. The top three positions were taken up by single seater racers, with Simon Camilleri in first with a track time of 37.952 seconds. In second place was Steve Zammit Cutajar, even with his leave of absence this year has achieved a time of 38.661 seconds. Third was a newcomer to ICC, Ivan Paul Deidun, in his home-built prototype - he managed 38.978 seconds.
Together with most of the regular drivers, ICC enjoyed the company of some of the VGP drivers who raced with their classic motors featuring Mini’s and a Lancia which also gave a nice touch to the event.
ICC thanked the Kalkara Local council for providing us with such a venue, Vice Mayor Norbert Grech for correspondence and guidance, Police inspector M. Sammut and all ICC members for their continuous support.
