The Vittoriosa Lawn Tennis Club has just organised its annual Christmas Junior Open, a ranking event played under the auspices of the Malta Tennis Federation and sponsored by NexiaBT, the audit and consulting firm of Swatar and Marsascala.

The girls singles Under 10 was won by Martina Demanuele with Mireya Cassar placing runner up while the boys Under 10 event was won by Liam Delicata who defeated David Cardona in the final.

In the Under 12 category, the boys singles event was won by Miguel Galea who overcame the opposition offered by Benjamin Farrugia in a 6-3, 7-5 thrilling final.

Katrina Sammut retained the Under 14 girls singles title beating Rebecca McCarthy 6-2, 6-1 in the final.

The boys Under 14 singles was won by Mark Schranz who defeated Benjamin Farrugia 6-2, 6-0 in the final.

The Sammut duo dominated the Under 16 category in their respective sections. Katrina Sammut made it a double, by carrying also the Under 16 singles event when she defeated Rebecca McCarthy 6-2, 6-2 in the final.

Her brother Raphael also retained the Under 16 boys title, winning the event without dropping a game throughout the tournament and beating Matthew Cassar Torregiani 6-0, 6-0 in the final.
