Hamrun Spartans and Birkirkara will both be aiming to bounce back after last week’s defeats at the hands of Qormi and Sliema Wanderers respectively.

The Bank of Valletta Premier League enters its 17th week this evening at the Victor Tedesco Stadium with Hamrun Spartans facing Mosta at 6pm and Birkirkara coming up against Marsaxlokk in the second match of the evening.

Both clubs will have different aims. At present, in fact, Birkirkara are battling to finish among the Top Six while the Spartans will be aiming to improve their position with relegation in mind.

Last week, Birkirkara went down against Sliema with a goal in added injury time while the Spartans were demolished 3-0 by Qormi.

This evening Hamrun face a revived Mosta side and it is expected that the two sides will be battling for the three important points in the hope that they might eventually start the Second Phase in a better position, though in all probability, they will end up in the Relegation Pool.

In the other match, Birkirkara will be facing bottom placed Marsaxlokk who were hammered 4-0 by Floriana last weekend.

The beleagured Marsaxlokk have signed some new players in the hope of improving their position but Birkirkara will be hungry for the points in the hope to move further up the table and distance themselves further from seventh placed Balzan Youths, at present only two points away.

Birkirkara may field Brazilian forward Jorge Santos Silva who joined the Stripes this week after his contract with Sliema Wanderers was terminated by mutual agreement.
