With reference to Daphne Caruana Galizia’s article of 5 January on the subject of the Sliema double murder, I have to say that I have never read such a load of hypocritical rubbish in my life.

This article begs the question of whether Ms Caruana Galizia is simply given carte blanche to publish whatever she likes. “Assumptions are extremely dangerous and can create even more pain, strangely enough, than the truth.” I suppose a good illustration of that would be the many assumptions that she has levelled against others, including references to the use of ‘talcum powder’ in relation to the case against the magistrate.

“The people involved in grief and tragedy can deal with the truth eventually, but assumed falsehoods and gossip can kill them a thousand times over.” So when did that ever stop her in the past for example from attacking the dead who cannot fight back? “The rest of us should just keep quiet.” People have been saying that to Ms Caruana Galizia for years without success so who is she to be telling others?

“People are not divested of their right to privacy by situations like this. The only justification for the release of certain details is transparency in the meting out of justice, in a court of law.” Wow! Once again we have to remind ourselves who the person preaching here is. It would appear that Ms Caruana Galizia has suddenly come to the realisation that people have a right to privacy! The last two sentences are a cracker as we say in Ireland, “This sort of behaviour used to be considered vulgar in the extreme, the diversion of the sub-literate and the disadvantaged. But now everybody is apparently at it, and this malice in the misfortune of others brings us low.” As least here she is speaking from experience since her antics over the years have brought her down to the lowest level she accuses others of.
